20 song playlist

I chose these 20 songs as they fit into the pop/mixed genre. I listened to several singers including Beyonce, Will I Am, Maroon 5, Fifth Harmony, Taylor Swift and other bands and artists who make or share their most popular music. These are the tracks that have touched and it also got me into listening to these songs regularly. For each music that I had listened to seems to be expressing themselves about their relationships as well as talking about their experiences with having that special someone.I find this very touching but expressive and I think that pop music like these seem under appreciated as most young adults listen to other genres that piques their interest. it feels like it's painting an image of what they are saying  as most pop music tells a personal message.

Magazine creator

Magazine Creator
For my magazine creator, I have chosen Krissi Murison, a former editor for NME magazine. The reason for picking her work as my inspiration is because she gives the magazine a more exclusive style: I like the way she uses specific block colours especially the font to symbolise the type of audience the magazine is aiming at as well as providing a glossy look for the artist featured on the cover. The  she uses a gradient background but I feel that it wouldn't make the image as realistic. Her use of different  fonts makes the magazine look fancy but also a must have with the contents inside the magazine- this would encourage me to experiment with different fonts to make my magazine look appealing enough to read.

Graphic Designer

David Carson is an American graphic designer, art director and surfer. He is best known for his innovative magazine design, and use of experimental typography.

I really like this graphic designer because his work is combined through art and words; the font is very clear and bold enough to see and his style inspires me to use rough, distressed fonts such as " Courier New" which has an uncanny resemblance to one of the fonts he had used in his work and other fonts that are unique which makes a great combination to use for my magazine- I will be using a limited colour palette such as blue as my main palette, white for background and further detail and black to make the words more easy to read. His use of the colour black is cleverly used to interpret a secret message or information that makes me want to know what he is trying to say. His layout looks very organised but also abstract which makes me want to consider using his layout for inspiration when I get started on my magazine. I like the way he uses different words   to build up a story as well as making the presentation look modern.

Photographers

I have chosen these two photographers because they seem to be focusing more on the close-up of the model in order to convey the centre of attention on who we are actually focusing on. Testino took  some beautiful pictures of the singer Madonna- He got her to pose in a wild, refreshed manner along with a simple over the shoulder pose- this is the type of pose that I would like to adopt when I take my own
test shots. for both photographers, the emotions of their model seems serious and very addressing to the reader's eye. I really like the lighting they use in the photo shoot- the background looks very faded and emotionless which is used to only focus on the centre of attention; I feel that it's easy to take a photo on a simple, plain background so that it surround the model with a complex setting. The great use of shadows looks very symmetrical in order to not make the model look flat as well as providing the effectiveness of it.

Audience Research from UKtribes.com

Stylers

Still representing status and style, it’s about partying, looking good and staying ahead of cool.
Stylers hold strong on the UK Tribes map – innately cool and stylish, the rising influence of Urban fashion and music have made them a hugely aspirational Tribe for youth today. As luxe sportswear and Urban high fashion has hit the Aspirants (check out the Hypebeasts), more young people than ever before are looking like a Styler and aspiring to their luxury lifestyle.

Those who belong in this group would read my magazine because they have their own power to find a style that suits them without following the Mainstreamers. This allows them to set themselves apart from Mainstream music but also to explore their needs of being like their role model such as the way they dress to impress.

Get Paid Crew

Get Paid Crew are highly aspirational, driven by money and being their own boss.
More straight-laced than their innovative DIYer cousins and likely to be working hard to set up their own business, get a good job and make money, money, money – once connected to dodgy dealings, there is now a huge amount of respect for the success orientated GPCs.

Creatives

Creatives are still top of the Tribal map and care constantly creating new content
DIYers are creative, tech savvy self-starters that bring culture to life for Tribes today – they produce music, promote club nights, start indie brands and create festival stages. Many are also Creatives, but DIYers are set apart by their aspirations to ‘make it’, create events and actively influence culture in their area. DIYers used to be focused more in London, but in 2015 all major cities have a strong DIY scene.
Those who belong in this group are very ideal for my target audience because they can gain new skills such as making their own music, encouraging their potential to be a singer or playing an instrument of their choice. They can look up to their favourite artists by experimenting with their style, looks and music, prompting their aspirations of being influenced by them.

Trendies

Trendies are driven by beautiful things and beautiful people, Trendies love fashion and are always looking for the next big trend!
They’re the biggest outwardly ‘brand-me’ Tribe – they’re universally aspirational in fashion and music, both offline and online. The rise of Mainstream Brand Me behaviours and fast fashion means the Trendies are still going strong and are one of the biggest Tribes on the map in 2015. Their influence is if anything growing, as more and more Trendies lean towards vlogging and sharing their super-soft-focus, Instagrammable lives online – inspiring younger teens to live a perfect life.
I think that this group would read my magazine as it impacts the younger audience- they follow every trend they look for in different forms of media such as TV, magazines, books, computers etc. From this, the two major players of music are Pop and Rock genre as they influence the young generation.

Overall, the two groups that are most suitable for reading my magazine are the Creatives and Stylers because their types can be linked with music and fashion which makes it more unlimiting to read. It converges well to their needs to search for inspiration from different artists or bands which would make my magazine help them like they help it by reading the contents inside.

25 word pitch

I am  making a pop art themed music magazine targeted at young adults aged 16-24 inspired by the unique style of David Carson and Q magazine.

Analysis of institution that would publish your magazine

The type of institute that would help publish my music magazine is BauerMedia. I chose this as my source for distribution because it is one of the biggest magazine publishers and they are known for publishing well-known music magazines such as Kerrang!and Q magazine. For each magazine,it has their own websites and radio stations. They have over 600 magazines to choose from. This would give me the chance to make my magazine brand known to all web readers. The genre for my magazine is pop and I believe that this genre is overrated to become widely known which makes it easier for the magazine brand to be more than just one form of media to making it easily accessible whenever and wherever.

Another institution is Time Inc UK (formerly IPC Media) as they have a endless range of magazines as well as providing well known music magazines such as NME and Uncut. Interestingly, they offer magazine subscriptions via tablets, print, online and mobile devices. they even have their own app that their viewers can download to make life easier than to just use only the website.

Rock

Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. It has its roots in 1940s' and 1950s' rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by blues, rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as electric blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources.
Musically, rock has centered on the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass guitar and drums. Typically, rock is song-based music usually with a 4/4 time signature using a verse-chorus form, but the genre has become extremely diverse. Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. The dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the themes explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on musicianship, live performance, and an ideology of authenticity than pop music.

My opinion, I think that Rock links to Pop as it is one of the top genres that most of my target audience listens to because of their wild and vibrant music. it paints a feral but pleasant image by using their voices to interpret their feelings, emotions and how they feel into a particular topic that causes them to act all rebellious and free

final idea for colour palette

For my final ideas on what colour scheme that i should use is colours that can also apply for my target audience but also linking it to pop culture as it has influenced the world because of its music, fashion etc.

Response I think that my chosen colour palettes fit well for my magazine as it has hot, trendy colours such as light blue, yellow and hot pink. Light blue is used to define the imaginative theme as well as implying freedom. I also chose yellow as my second colour to define the freshness and I believe that it can capture the clarity of my front cover and Hot pink is my third chosen colour to make it appeal to the female audience and to not feel dominated by more masculine colours as my magazine is mostly aimed at the male audience.
